Renu Satti Quits As Paytm Payments Bank CEO

Paytm Payments Bank CEO Renu Satti has resigned from the role and will now head Paytm’s new retail initiative. Paytm will look for a replacement for Satti, who had taken over the CEO role last year. 
In the past, Satti has built businesses ground up that include market place, movie ticketing and most recently Paytm Payments Bank. 
What is Paytm’s “New Retail Model”?
Under its ‘New Retail’ model, consumers will soon be able to discover nearby pharmacies, groceries and other shops to place an order and get instant deliveries. 

Rajasthan Signs MoU For The 1st Cow Sanctuary in State

Rajasthan Government signed an MoU with a private trust Sohanlalji Buladeviji Ojha Gaushala Samiti to build its first ‘Cow Sanctuary’, a shelter for 10000 cows. 
The cow sanctuary will be spread over an area of more than 220 hectares in Bikaner district. This will be the first cow sanctuary in Rajasthan and will be situated in Bikaner’s Napasar.

3rd BRICS Film Festival Concluded: Complete List of Indian Winners

The 3rd BRICS Film Festival took place in Durban, South Africa, along with the International Durban Film Festival (DIFF). The last day of the festival (27th July) was celebrated as India Country Day, followed by Awards and Closing Ceremony. The film festival is aimed at celebrating world-class film productions from the BRICS nations with the objective of inspiring more collaboration from these nations. 
Awards won by Indian films in the 3rd BRICS Film Festival, Durban, South Africa: 
1. Best Actress: Bhanita Das, Village Rockstars,
2. Best Film: Newton by Amit Masurkar,
3. Special Jury Award: Village Rockstars by Rima Das.
The festival screened four Indian Films in the following category: 
(a) Films in Competition Section:
  • Newton by Amit Masurkar,
  • Village Rock Stars by Rima Das.

(b) Films in Non-competition Section:
  • Sinjar by Sandeep Pampally,
  • Bhanayakam by Jayaraj.

1st Nepal-India Think Tank Summit Begins in Kathmandu

The first Nepal-India Think Tank Summit has begun in Kathmandu to foster greater collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the think tanks of the two countries. The summit is being jointly organized by the Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs and Nehru Memorial Museum Library. 
Former Prime Minister of Nepal and Co-chairman of ruling Communist Party of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda inaugurated the summit. The main objective of the summit is to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Nepal through multi-faceted collaboration among think-tanks in both the countries. 
4 Sessions-4 Themes:
  • 1st session- Building innovative cooperation between Indo-Nepal think tanks, 
  • 2nd session- Bolstering bilateral economic ties for the shared prosperity, 
  • 3rd session- Managing security dilemma, 
  • 4th session- Redefining Nepal-India relations in 21st century.

World Day against Trafficking in Persons: 30 July

World Day against Trafficking in Persons is organized across the world by the United Nations on 30 July to Combat Trafficking in Persons, urging Governments worldwide to take coordinated and consistent measures to defeat this scourge. The theme for World Day against Trafficking in Persons is ‘Responding to the trafficking of children and young people’. 

In 2013, the General Assembly held a high-level meeting to appraise the Global Plan of Action. Member States also adopted the resolution and designated July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

All You Need To Know About Final Draft Of NRC Released By Assam

Assam released the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), seven months after it released the first draft on 1 January 2018, which included 1.9 crore names out of a total applicant pool of 3.29 crore. The recently released list, however, left our 40.07 lakh people wherein 2.89 crore people were found eligible out of 3.29 crore applicants.
What is the NRC?
The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is the list of Indian citizens of Assam. It was prepared in 1951, following the census of 1951. For a person’s name to be included in the updated NRC list of 2018, he/ she will have to furnish:
(i) The existence of name in the legacy data: The legacy data is the collective list of the NRC data of 1951 and the electoral rolls up to midnight of 24 March 1971.
(ii) Proving linkage with the person whose name appears in the legacy data.
How did NRC verification begin in Assam?
The process of NRC update was taken up in Assam as per a Supreme Court order in 2013. In order to wean out cases of illegal migration from Bangladesh and other adjoining areas, NRC updation was carried out under The Citizenship Act, 1955, and according to rules framed in the Assam Accord. 
Who all have been left out?
Out of the 40.07 lakh applicants who have been left out of the final draft NRC released, 2.48 lakh applicants have been kept on hold including the D-Voters (doubtful voters who have been disenfranchised on account of failure to prove citizenship), descendants of D-voters and persons whose cases are pending before the foreigners tribunal.

Invest India and UAE Ministry Sign MoU for Technological Cooperation

Invest India and the UAE Minister for Artificial Intelligence (AI) signed an MoU for India – UAE Artificial Intelligence Bridge in New Delhi. This partnership will generate an estimated USD 20 billion in economic benefits during the next decade for both countries. 
The MoU was signed in the presence of Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu and H.E. Ahmad Sultan Al Falahi, Minister Plenipotentiary – Commercial Attache, UAE Embassy at the India leg of GovHack series of World Government Summit.

Mohun Bagan ‘Ratna’ Conferred on Pradip Chowdhury

Mohun Bagan ‘Ratna’, the highest honour of Mohun Bagan club was awarded to former India international Pradip Chowdhury at its foundation day programme. Pradip Chowdhury is a former Mohun Bagan captain. 
He is the 18th recipient of Mohun Bagan ‘Ratna’ award. This award was first given to Sailen Manna in 2001.
Other awardees are:
1. Goalkeeper Shilton Paul– Best Footballer for the year 2017-18,

ONGC Presented With INFRA Icon Award

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) was awarded the INFRA Icon Award in the ‘Global Energy’ category at the mid-day INFRA Icons Awards 2018, in Mumbai. The award was given away by Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Pravin Darare. 
ONGC has received this award as a recognition of its valuable contribution in upgrading India as a whole. INFRA aims to bring a change with trendsetters related to the infrastructure of India. The theme of the event was: ‘Smart cities envisages to take infrastructure development to a next level’.

Indian Railways Launches ‘Mission Satyanishtha’


The Indian Railways launched ‘Mission Satyanishtha’ and a programme on Ethics in Public Governance, in a first-of-its-kind event, at a day-long function held at National Rail Museum, New Delhi. The Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal administered the oath to the officers and supervisors at the programme. 
The first-of-its-kind event was inaugurated by Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board. The Satyanishtha mission aims to sensitise all railway employees about the need to adhere to good ethics and to maintain high standards of integrity at work.
