Narak Chaturdashi: Eradicate All Evils Form Your Mind and Society

Narak Chaturdashi: Eradicate All Evils Form Your Mind and Society

Dear Readers, After Dhanteras today is the 2nd day of the Diwali Festival- Narak Chaturdashi. Many of us can relate to this day as the festival of cleanliness and eradication of evil. On this day, our elders or parents advise us to clean our room, and each and every corner of our house so that there is no “evil” left in any of the farthest corners and the next day we welcome goddess Laxmi in our pure and pious home wholeheartedly.

But is that all; what this day…this festival is about? Just cleaning our houses won’t eradicate or ward off any evil. What about the evil in our minds that distracts us from our goal and what about the evil in our society which we blindly follow in the name of some incoherent tradition? There is more to the essence of Narak Chaturdashi keep on reading to understand the ethos of this day.

Naraka Chaturdashi also known as ‘Naraka Nivaran Chaturdashi’ is a significant festival for Hindu followers. The festival celebrates the victory of Lord Krishna after defeating a demon named ‘Narakasur’. In many states, it is also referred to as ‘Chotti Diwali‘ or ‘Roop Chaturdashi’.  According to Hindu mythology, Narakasur, the son of Mother Earth, becomes an evil asur who ruled several kingdoms brought under his rule by force. Narakasur comes to rule Heaven and Earth. Lord Indra pleads with Lord Vishnu who promises to deal with the matter in his incarnation as Krishna. In his incarnation as Krishna, he attacks Narakasur while riding his mount Garuda with his wife Satyabhama and beheads him with the Sudarshan Chakra. In another version, it is said that Narkasur is granted a boon by Lord Brahma that he will only die at the hands of a woman. So, in the battle, it is Lord Krishna’s wife Satyabhama who beheads him with Krishna as her saarthi.
This was just a lore in the backdrop of celebrating this festival. This day is meant to ward off laziness and any sort of evils from our minds, home, and society. Today don’t just follow broken rules by simply cleaning your room or house and not cleaning your mind and spirit. You must take a step to actually eradicate that evil which lures you away from concentrating on your true goal. Your achievements aren’t that far away from you but are you truly reaching out to them? Deep in our minds, we all are well aware of our strengths and weakness, our good and bad deeds but we fail to acknowledge them, that is where we might lack.

So, on this day embrace all your strengths and weakness and let go of all those temptations that keep you away from reaching your goal. Along with this also pledge to not just eradicate the petty things that distract you but also to eradicate the social evil that you or your folks may blindly follow in name of some broken tradition. There are many “Narakasurs” still prevalent in our society; child marriage, abuse of women, children and elderly people, dowry, manual scavenging, corruption, and pollution are few to name from the long list. The least as a responsible human being we can do is to take a vow to eliminate such evils from our society on our scale, that we will discourage such practices and will not indulge in any of them. So, celebrate this festival with full enthusiasm, let no evil stop you from getting the bliss of healthy, prosperous and successful life.

Happy Diwali!!

Happy Dussehra!!

Happy-Dussehra!!

Team Adda247 wishes you all a very Happy Dussehra!! Dussehra is one of the most significant festivals of the Hindu religion. As per the Hindu mythology, Rama killed Ravana, the king of Lanka on this day. It marks the victory of good over evil. It falls on the tenth day of Ashwin month according to Hindu Calendar. Hindus in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal celebrate this festival by burning huge effigies of Ravana across the country.

It is a ten-day long festival in which the first nine days involve the worship of goddess Durga. Goddess Durga is believed to have attained victory over the demon Mahishasura after fighting him for 10 days and nine nights. The 9 days are celebrated as “Navaratri” and people in South India keep Kolu in their homes and temples.  On the tenth day, the day of Dussehra, effigies of Ravana, his son Meghnath and his brother Kumbhkaran are burnt all across the country. It is also known as ‘Vijayadashami’.
Plays are organized across the country depicting the story of Ramayana that is popularly known as Ramleela. The main characters of the play are Rama, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman. The heroic acts of Rama are sharply displayed in these plays. In the end, Ravana is killed by Rama, which portrays the victory of “good over the evil”. After the victory, Rama returned to Ayodhya along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman. Everyone gets together on this day, spend time with their family and loved ones, attend Ramleela plays on the life of Lord Rama, and worship the triumph of good.
This festival hoists the morale of everyone. It gives us the courage to fight against all the hurdles in our lives, no matter how poor the situation seems to be. There will be the victory of the righteous and virtuous. It is an auspicious day to start with any good work and the new era of well-being, be it your studies or any other new start in your life. Start with it and do your best.

71st Independence Day| The seven glorious decades of Freedom

Dear Readers, here we are again all united in a uniform spirit to celebrate our 71st Independence day. Although it seems a bit odd that we need specific days to motivate us to get our spirits in sync. But nevertheless, it’s never too late to wake up to a new morning that comes with new hopes for a better & peaceful future.

This journey of seven decades of independent India is full of crests & troughs. We will today embark on a journey of our glorious past, struggle to free our mother India from the claws of foreign powers & the emergence of India as one of the superpowers, deep-rooted social-evils in our society etc through this piece. To start with, we need to first understand what India is all about. India is not merely a nation of a certain race or tribe or religion but a ‘Sangam’ of cultures, religions, languages, faiths, rituals, races, ethnicities that are in cohesion with one another.

India has a past that is full of rich heritage. We were the world leaders in terms of medicine, spirituality, education, politics & literature in the ancient past. This is the land which was gifted by the likes of Sushrut, Charak, Ramanujan, Aryabhatta, Panini, Kalidasa, Vikramaditya, the great Ashoka, Tulsidasa, Valmiki, Kabir and the list is endless. We enjoy the pleasure to be born in a country that gifted ‘Zero’ to the world. Had it not been there, imagine how tough it would have been to be a millionaire. On a serious note, India is undoubtedly one of the greatest countries of this world. India was home to one of the most ancient civilizations. This, in itself, gives evidence of our rich ancient past. But as all great things have to face adversities & India was not the exception; India also faced many brutal attacks on it’s soil. She saw some cruelest rulers of the world ruining her dignity. A nation that was once called ‘GOLDEN SPARROW’ now struggles to get good positions in Global poverty index & Hunger index etc. This becomes necessary to know to realise the harm caused by foreign attackers to India & to understand the India’s freedom struggle & sacrifices made in the struggle. Although the drain of the Indian wealth had already started back in the times of invaders like Mahmud Gaznavi & Nadirshah but the real wealth & resources drain started in British rule. They sucked it gradually but made sure that India is left with nothing. Some people might argue that the British were the ones because of whom we are able to impart modern day education system to our kids & enjoy raliway journeys but interestingly they forget that in the long run all of it has come at a very huge cost. Our wealth drained by the British is way more than the virtues they gave to our Indian society. We Indians were always fooled by the British on the pretext of money, power etc. We failed to realise that we allowed them to snatch away our most precious thing i.e freedom. Finally, the day came when Indians realised it and that later came to be known as “The Revolt of 1857” or “The Sepoy Mutiny”. With this revolt started the century long freedom struggle which saw numerous tales of Godly valour, courage, sacrifices of sons by mothers, husbands by wives, daughters by fathers, brothers by sisters & vice versa. But as they say that you can fight with anything in this world but not with a spirited Indian, so the British also eventually kneeled down in front of the great Indian courage & determination to get freedom.
To attain freedom we lost many great sons & daughters of this country. But when I see today’s India somewhere deep in my heart I feel hopeful that maybe, not today we are a perfect & ideal country but at least after seeing so many daunting adversities in the last 7 decades we reached upto this level which is commendable. The day is not far when we will be proudly saying to our martyrs that this is the country you sacrificed your lives for. If Bhagat Singh, Aazad ji, Ashfaqulla Khan, Batukeshwar Dutt, the legendary Subhash Chandra, Rani Lakshmi Bai etc would someday sit in heaven to have a look over their motherland, they would certainly feel, at least, partially happy about the nation’s growth. But now the biggest question arises that are we really free. What freedom means for an individual common man of this nation. For most of them it’s a national holiday. For some it’s a day when we got Independence although it’s literally true. But do we ever realise that still we are tied with some social evils deeply rooted in our society? No, we fail to realise the meaning of absolute freedom. What we celebrate is merely partial freedom but we should strive for absolute freedom.
Freedom from social evils like crimes against women, corruption & caste politics is the need of the hour. In the past 3 or 4 years as the nation has tried hard to break out of inertia & despondency. The thought of relief is that there is awareness among the youth about the new challenges. India is a nation with ample of opportunities & off late the world has realised this. We are a nation that has ‘Youth Potential’ in it. We have 65% of young guns out of our total population to lead the nation’s story of growth from the front. This is a huge number as we know that in most of the developed nations like Japan this % is of the old aged persons. So, this is a golden chance for the Indian Youth to write India’s growth story in golden words. The youth at present is not burdened with the bagage of deadwood. These children of digital age are not averse to risk taking & are fiercely independent. This number is referred to as favoured demographic dividend & hopefully would give India an edge over others in the upcoming years. We should consider ourselves lucky as we have the golden opportunity to witness the transformation of a developing economy to a developed one.
Moreover, on this 70th Independence Day we need to take a pledge to make this nation a great place to live. Be it littering, be it corruption, be it other social evils we need to flush them out & make our nation clean. The heritage of resplendant pluralism that has enriched our culture for ages should be kept intact by us. Not just flag hoisting ceremonies would suffice for Independence day celebrations but feeding a poor, planting a sapling, cleaning a dirty spot in your locality are some of the best & innovative ways by which you can make this nations free from other evils. British were sent out of this country by some fierce, valour-filled young guns. Can’t you send corruption, injustice, inequality, terrorism outside this nation? Remember we are surrounded by highly hostile neighbourhoods. We can’t afford communal tensions among us over issues like religion, caste or race. At present we need to show our strength by being One India. There are dacoits like Pakistan & bullies like China in our neighbourhood. We need to double our efforts & triple our courage to be clash ready in case of any breach of our international borders. However, more than international threats India’s challenges range from naxalism to regional divides. These are the ultimate challenges that we have to fight within at top priority.
We urge all of you to take a pledge to work for a better India on this Independence day, so that in the 75th year of our independence day we could proudly say that our efforts have paid off. In the end we would like to conclude with few awesome lines written by one of our disqus student PC .

Nuclear Supplier’s Group (NSG)

Nuclear Supplier’s Group (NSG)
Background:
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) was signed in 1968 to prevent spread of nuclear materials, technology and weapons so as to develop co-operation among the nations. This treaty was signed by a total of 191 countries except India, South Sudan, Israel and Pakistan. This treaty recognized two groups of countries namely the Nuclear Weapon States (NWS) comprising US, UK ,China,France and Russia and the other being Non Nuclear Weapon States (NNWS).
As per this treaty:

  • NWS member countries had to commit for the complete nuclear disarmament
  • NNWS agreed to let go the developing or acquiring of nuclear weapons.

Reasons for India and other countries did not signed in NWS:

India and the rest of the countries dint sign this as they must dismantle all nuclear weapons and place them under international safeguards to become a NNWS member.Indian foreign policy was against this keeping in mind security concerns, for dismantling all our nuclear weapons will makes us more vulnerable if any untoward thing happens in the future.

Origin and Purpose:

NSG is a multinational body concerned with reducing nuclear proliferation by controlling the export and re-transfer of materials that may be used for development of nuclear weapons. NSG also sets global rules for international trade in nuclear energy technology.
It was set up in 1974 as a reaction to India’s first successful nuclear tests at Pokhran (Code Name – Smiling Buddha) conducted on 18 May 1974, to stop so called misuse of nuclear material meant for peaceful purposes.

Pokhran test,1974

Number of Members of NSG: 48 Numbers

Why is India seeking to become a member of NSG ?
  1. India wants to become a player in this international arena where nuclear commerce norms are laid.
  2. If India becomes a member it will have better international market for export as well as for import of nuclear related materials.
  3. For building nuclear reactors, for providing energy we need nuclear materials. By becoming a member of NSG we can have better access of nuclear materials .
  4. All nuclear based programmes of India is being run on indigenous technology. By becoming a member of NSG we will have access to sophisticated foreign technologies.
  5. By becoming a member India can also sell it’s Indigineous technology thereby giving ‘Make In India’ face-lift.
  6. Clean Energy – India is committed to reduce it’s dependence on fossil fuels and scale up nuclear power production.
Why are certain countries opposing/supporting India’s entry into NSG ?
India has been trying to get into NSG since 2008. While India is being backed by United States, Switzerland and Mexico for it’s membership of NSG (due to commendable efforts by NaMo), it is being opposed by China, New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan.

Recent Support for NSG Membership for India.

  • Switzerland – on 6 June 2016 during PM Modi’s visit to Geneva.
  • USA – President Obama – on 8 June 2016 during PM Modi’s visit to Washington DC.
  • Japan has expressed support for India’s bid for membership of the NSG.
  • China didn’t approve of India’s membership to NSG.
  • Mexico – In June 2016, India also got crucial support from Mexico

Basis of China, New Zealand, South Africa & Pakistan’s opposition:

  • A country which is a non-signatory of NPT, CTBT etc shouldn’t be given a NSG membership.

China is putting forward their arguments on the basis that if India is to be granted a seat in NSG ,then all other South Asian countries like Pakistan which were non-signatory of NPT should be granted a seat too.

Meanwhile Pakistan is opposing India’s entry merely because it doesn’t want India to possess high end technologies in the nuclear field. And Pakistan also fears that if India becomes a member it could prevent it from becoming a member just like how China is currently down voting India.

Current Status:

India could not get the membership of NSG.

India deserves NSG membership due to following:-

1. India has established itself as a responsible nuclear state

    (a) Declared a voluntary moratorium on further underground nuclear tests

    (b) Effectively acting in sense the spirit of NPT/ CTBT
    (c) Only as a minimum deterrence & pledging NFU (No First Use)
    (d) Unless faced with an attack of weapons of mass destruction
2. India’s nuclear doctrine is unique.

    (a) It is non-offensive, non-proliferative and only for deterrence.
    (b) Prepared to accept full-scale IAEA safeguards.
  (c) Already acquired high-level expertise in the peaceful use of nuclear energy in industry,  power,  agriculture and health care.
   (d) India’s membership shall not only benefit it but also encourage civil nuclear trade globally without compromising on world peace and harmony.
Way Ahead:

1. India may have one more chance to persuade China to give up it’s opposition to India’s candidature.

2. This is expected to be at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Tashkent to be held on 9th and 10th July’2016 where both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese president Xi Jinping are expected to be present.

3. Can talk with China for NSG membership. As China is seeking membership of MTCR of which India is now a member of.

4. India can have a better face to get permanent membership of United Nations Security Council.
Treasures

1. Non-Proliferation – the prevention of an increase or spread of something, especially the number of countries possessing nuclear weapons. (गैर प्रसार)

2. Adherence – sticking to, being faithful to
