External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held talks with US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo and Defence Secretary James Mattis.
Military Ties:
According to US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo, both sides should continue to ensure freedom of the seas and work towards peaceful resolutions of territorial and maritime disputes, seen as an oblique reference to China’s expansionist behaviour in the South China Sea. He also stressed on promoting market-based economics and good governance.
Nuclear Deal:
A raft of other important issues like US sanctions on import of Iranian crude oil and India’s plan to buy a batch of S-400 air defence missile systems from Russia were discussed. In May, the US withdrew from the landmark Iran nuclear deal and re-imposed the sanctions that had been suspended in return for curbs on Tehran’s nuclear programme. Iran is India’s third-largest oil supplier after Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Early Life of Major Dhyan Chand:
Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905, to a Rajput family in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His original name was Dhyan Singh. His parents were Sharadha Singh and father Sameshwar Singh. His father was in the British Indian Army, and he played hockey in the army.

Between 1922 and 1926, Chand exclusively played army hockey tournaments and regimental games. He was selected for the Indian Army team which was to tour New Zealand in 1926. The team won 18 matches, drew 2 and lost only 1, receiving praise from all spectators. Returning to India, Chand was immediately promoted to Lance Naik. In 1925, an Inter-Provincial Tournament was held to select India’s national field hockey team. Chand got permission from the Army to play for the United Provinces team.
