The Odisha government has launched a new website of the state Home department to enable the differently-abled persons to see and hear the website. The portal has been designed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) with accessibility guidelines for differently-abled persons. It has been inaugurated by the state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

 

This is a bilingual website available in both English and Odia language. It facilitates access to all directorates or departments along with various citizen services like Secretariat Pass, Tracking the Missing Child, Reservation of Odisha Bhawan, Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems and other such services. Besides, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are available through the portal, it also has a women and employee corner.

Maharashtra Govt. to provide as many as 1,200 wi-fi hotspots in Mumbai

Chief Minister of Maharastra Government Mr. Devendra Fadnavis has stated that Maharashtra government will provide as many as 1,200 wi-fi hotspots in the megapolis as a part of transforming Mumbai into a Smart City. As the state government wants to make Mumbai a wi-fi city by May 2017 with 1,200 hotspots at important places  While out of the total of 1,200 hotspots, 500 will be operational in the first phase by November 2016 and this was another important step after the CCTV project towards making Mumbai a Smart City.

Apart from these, Fadnavis also stated that the Union Government had sanctioned affordable housing projects under which 1,01,701 houses would be constructed in the state. For which Centre had allocated Rs 1,513 crore and the state Government Rs 967 crore and in continuation, the state government has also signed a MoU with HP for creating IT infrastructure in three Smart Cities on which the government is going to invest Rs. 1,800 crore.

Javadekar to inaugurate transit campus of IIT in Jammu today

Union Minister for Human Resource and Development Prakash Javadekar will inaugurate the transit campus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at village Jagti, Tehsil Nagrota in Jammu today. As earlier the Parliament has passed a Bill on setting up an IITs in Palakkad (Kerala), Goa, Dharward (Karnataka), J&K, and Bhilai (Chhattisgarh).

Even a total of 90 students have been enrolled at IIT Jammu for the academic session. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed between the Department of Higher Education, Jammu and Kashmir and the Department of Higher Education in the HRD Ministry, on May 1, 2016 in this regard. The construction of transit campus spread over 25 acres within the actual site will start soon.

Odisha opens 100 new multi-purpose calamity shelter units


Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has dedicated 100 multi-purpose shelter houses to the people of Odisha for use during floods and cyclones with an aim to ensure zero casualties during calamities. These 100 multi-purpose calamity shelter units have been inaugurated by the CM across 17 districts of the state which include Puri, Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kenrapara, Malkangiri, Keonjhar and Cuttack, Boudh and Jajpur, besides in Bargarh, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, and Subarnapur.

The 100 new shelters will add to the state’s existing 526 multi-purpose shelter houses, adding people can take shelter in these places during calamities like floods and cyclones. The chief minister also stated that more shelter houses are already under construction and the state will have 879 multi-purpose shelter houses by the end of this year.

Telangana, AP set to launch an awareness campaign against ISIS


Telangana and Andhra Pradesh state minorities commission is all set to release an awareness campaign against ISIS by getting on board Imams of a large number of mosques across the two states to thwart the attempts of the terror group to lure youths. The Commission will hold a seminar, awareness programme and interactive session on “ISIS – Interpreting reality”, which would be attended among others by Imams of nearly 300 mosques from the two states.


These Imams are going to listen to all this (speeches by security and legal experts and religious scholars on perils of ISIS) and they will say the same thing next Friday (Friday prayers) in mosques. So, that way they will spread the word throughout the states. At the event, they would discuss ways to wean away people from the violent and ultra-conservative ideology of the terror group, and educate youth about serious repercussions of getting involved in its activities through social media.

Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2016 begins in Guwahati

The fourth edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival has commenced in Guwahati, Assam. The festival pays homage to the rich culture of northeast India and is dedicated to the film fraternity of the region. The festival is organised by Tattva Creations and includes six short films and six full-length films from northeast states like Manipur, Assam, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. 

The festival is a three-day fest and aims to bridge the gap by bringing engaging storytellers from within and outside the region under one roof. By this initiative, the organizers also aim at promoting northeast as a destination for filmmaking and dedicated to the film fraternity of the northeast region of India. The Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) has started in 2013.

First green rail corridor opens in Tamil Nadu

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated 114-km long Rameswaram-Manmadurai route in Tamil Nadu as the country’s first green rail corridor with zero toilet discharge sectionAccordingly, 10 passenger trains consisting of 286 coaches moving in the section have been provided with bio-toilets enabling the rail corridor free from the discharge of human waste on the track. During the inauguration, Mr. Prabhu also stated that till March 2016, a total of 35,104 bio-toilets had been provided and since then till last week 7,000 more new bio-toilets have been made operational.

He also inaugurated high speed upgraded Wi-Fi facility, set up in association with Google, at Chennai Central Railway Station and a similar facility at Tiruchirappalli through video conferencing.  The Wi-Fi amenities were part of the digital India plan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also launched a traditional medicine centre under Ayush at Perambur Railway Hospital, a broad gauge line between Thiruvallur and Thiruvalangadu stations on the Chennai-Arakkonam line.

Maharashtra CM launches pilot project of e-complaint system

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched a pilot project of e-complaint system on an experimental basis in PuneAfter the pilot project, the system will be launched across the state in next eight months. The project has been launched during the concluding ceremony of 14th Maharashtra Police Duty Meet at SRPF ground at Ramtekdi.

So now with the help of this system, citizens can now register a police complaint online at any city police station from anywhere. But as per current laws, FIRs have to be registered at the police station only. Also, a new SMS gateway has been launched wherein people get the acknowledgment of the FIR on the phone through a system generated SMS, and also when accused are arrested, charge sheet/final report submitted to the court.

Kerala Government launches first ever Water Metro project in the country

Kerala Government has launched Kochi Water Metro project, the first ever Water Metro project of the country. It was launched by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Kochi, Kerala. The project aims to provide water connectivity to people living between islands in the Kochi agglomeration area and the city. The Water Metro project would be dedicated to the nation in four years. It will be built at an estimated cost of rs. 747 crore. The Water metro project involves the purchase of two variants of air-conditioned and WiFi-enabled catamaran passenger ferries with a capacity of 50 and 100 passengers.

The project will be implemented by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) and funded by German Development Bank (Kfw). In this regard, KMRL has also signed an agreement with German Development Bank (Kfw). It will become operational in two years. The Water Metro will connect the islands spread across Kochi backwaters to the main city. The project involves the construction of jetties, roads and other basic facilities apart from boat services. It would make the urban water transport network in the city modern and safer.

Foundation stone laid for MSME technology center in Visakhapatnam

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with Union Ministers Kalraj Mishra and Venkaiah Naidu have laid the foundation stone for a Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises technology centre under Technology Centre Systems Programme (TCSP) at Pudi in Visakhapatnam district.Its main focus is to support industries, particularly MSMEs, through access to advanced manufacturing technologies, skilling manpower and providing technical and business advisory support to entrepreneurs. The programme is funded by the World Bank and the government of India.

He also announced a development package for villages surrounding industrial centres in the district. Later, he visited the Brandix India Apparel City at Atchutapuram and interacted with workers. He asked the management of Brandix India Apparel City, recognized as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by the Union Government, to form a wage board for periodical hikes for its employees. Naidu also laid the foundation stone for 400 houses being built by the AP Housing Board for those who lost their dwellings in the 2014 Hudhud cyclone. He also inaugurated 200 houses built by Infosys.
