Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018: Complete Highlights

It has been the season full of ups and downs for the 11th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final of the 2018 Indian  Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was the sensational knock of 117 runs off 57 balls by the experienced Shane Watson that led CSK to lift their third IPL trophy. Reinstated into the IPL after a two-year ban for their team management’s role in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal, CSK won their third IPL trophy after a gap of seven years.

With this, Chennai Super Kings equalled Mumbai Indians’ record for winning the most number of Indian Premier League titles. Notably, Chennai Super Kings defeated SunRisers Hyderabad in each of their four encounters this season.

HD Kumaraswamy Took Oath as New Karnataka CM

The JD(S)-Congress coalition government head HD Kumaraswamy was sworn-in as the New Chief Minister of Karnataka. Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath of office and secrecy to Kumaraswamy.

Congress Leader G. Parameshwara was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister. There are 221 elected members in the Legislative Assembly, and the coalition partners have 117 members, including one BSP and two independents.

PM Modi Laid Foundation Stone of India’s Longest Road Tunnel in J&K

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir. During his visit, Prime Minister laid down the foundation stone of Zojila Tunnel’ on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway in Leh. The 14.2-kilometre long Zojila tunnel will be India’s longest road tunnel and Asia’s longest bidirectional tunnel.

It will provide all-weather connectivity to the whole Ladakh region and Kargil in particular which remains cut off from rest of the world for more than 5 months of the winter. Prime Minister Modi also dedicated to the nation a 330 MW Kishenganga hydroelectric project from Srinagar. There are 7 functional NHPC power projects in J&K. The project has been built at a cost of Rs 5200 cr.

BJP’s Yeddyurappa to be Sworn in as Karnataka CM

Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala has invited BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa to take oath as the state’s Chief Minister tomorrow. This comes after BJP emerged as the single largest party by securing 104 seats, while 112 seats are required to form the government.


The JD(S)-Congress alliance, with 115 seats, also staked claim to form the government.

Venkaiah Naidu 3-Nation Visit: Complete Highlights

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu was on a five-day visit to South America’s Guatemala, Peru and Panama. Bilateral trade and investments were discussed during the visit. This was the Vice President’s first overseas visit after assuming office. He was be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Jasvantsinh Sumanbahi Bhabhor.

1. On 1st Leg Visited Guatemala:
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Guatemala on the first leg of his three-nation tour to Latin America. During his stay in Guatemala city, Mr Naidu met the leadership of the nation. A pact has been signed between India and Guatemala for strengthening diplomatic cooperation through Respective Foreign Service Institutes in the educational field.
2. On 2nd Leg Visited Panama:
On 2nd leg, Mr Naidu visited Panama where India and Panama have signed 2 agreements on the exemption of Visas for holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports and in the field of Agriculture. During the talks with Panamanian leaders, Mr Naidu also announced a total of US $ 25 million Line of Credit for setting up a Centre of Bio-diversity and Drug Tracking and a Centre for Innovation and Technology.
3. On 3rd Leg Visited Peru:
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Peru on the third and final leg of his three-nation visit to Latin America. India and Peru signed an agreement in the field of Renewable Energy at Lima. The pact was signed in the presence of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and the Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva Arevalo.

Walmart Buys Flipkart in World’s Largest e-Commerce Deal

US-based retail giant Walmart has confirmed that it will buy 77% stake in India’s largest e-commerce startup Flipkart for $16 billion. Walmart bought the stake in Flipkart for 16 billion dollars

The acquisition, which is the largest e-commerce deal in the world, will value the homegrown startup at a reported amount of $20.8 billion.

Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Awards 2018 Announced

Bollywood actors Bhumi Pednekar, Sonam Kapoor and Akshay Kumar bagged the best actress and best actor awards respectively at the Dadasaheb Phalke awards, given by Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation, held in Mumbai.

Manisha Koirala won the ‘Most Versatile Actress’ award. Veteran actor-director Rakesh Roshan was given the lifetime achievement award for his contribution to the industry as an actor, producer and a director.

TCS, 1st Indian IT Company With 100 Billion Dollar Market Value


Tata Consultancy Services has created the history as the market capitalisation of the company has hit the 100 billion dollar mark, making it the first Indian IT company to achieve the mark. TCS shares rose by 2% to Rs. 3476.75, pushing the market capitalisation of India’s biggest outsourcer to Rs. 6,64,918 crore.

Shares of TCS had surged by nearly 7% recently, making investors richer by over Rs. 40,000 crore in a day. TCS joined the ranks of the world’s 100 most valued organizations and now ranks 97th. The last Indian name to cross that threshold in 2007 was Reliance Industries Ltd.

CWG 2018: Indian Women’s TT Team Wins Gold

India has bagged three more Gold, one Silver and two bronze medals at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on the fourth day. Indian women’s Table Tennis team won their first ever Gold Medal defeating Singapore.

India now stands on the fourth position in the medals tally, having claimed seven gold, two silver and three bronze medals so far. Manika Batra led Table tennis team’s victory was historic as Singapore had never lost since 2002. Australia tops the medal tally with 67 medals, including 23 Gold, 20 Silver and 24 Bronze so far.
