DBS Named World’s Best Bank In Nod To Its Digital Innovation

DBS Bank has been named the world’s best bank by Global Finance magazine, in a reflection of its ability to invest in digital innovation while still maintaining stable operations for its customers.
DBS is the first Asian bank to receive the accolade from the New York-based publication, which last year gave the title to ING Bank.

PNB Gets Top Rank In Digital Transaction

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has announced that the Department of Financial Services report has rated it as number one state-owned bank in terms of digital transactions. The Nirav Modi scam-hit bank is also rated as the sixth overall amongst all banks in India for digital performance. 
The bank is rated as ‘Good’ by the government with a score of 71 which is the highest category of performance. PNB average percentage of technical declines is only 0.83 per cent of total transactions which is an achievement in itself.

G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting Held in Argentina

The G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting was held in Salta, Argentina. It took place as part of Sherpa Track for 2018 G20 Leaders’ Summit, which is to be hosted by Argentina by end of 2018. The theme of the meeting was ‘Building consensus for fair and sustainable development’. 
Its three key issues for the agenda were future of work, infrastructure for development, and sustainable food future. It concluded with the adaptation of declaration that reflects G20’s commitment towards promoting policies and actions that catalyze digital transformations.

Centre Signs MoU With 6 States For Lakhwar Yamuna Basin Project

Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari signed an MoU with six states for the construction of the Lakhwar multi-purpose project in the upper Yamuna basin to deal with water crisis.
Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh (Yogi Adityanath), Rajasthan (Vasundhara Raje Scindia), Uttarakhand (Trivendra Singh Rawat), Himachal Pradesh (Jai Ram Thakur), Haryana (Manohar Lal Khattar) and Delhi (Arvind Kejriwal) signed the MoU.
Under the agreement, the 204-metres high project will be constructed near Uttarakhand’s Lohari village with live storage capacity of 330.66 million cubic metres (MCM). The total project is worth Rs 3,966.51 crore.

Asian Games 2018: PV Sindhu Wins India’s 1st Asian Games Silver In Badminton

World number three PV Sindhu lost to world number one Tai Tzu-ying (Taiwan) in the women’s singles final to bag India’s first-ever silver medal in badminton at Asian Games. 
Sindhu, playing in her fifth final of 2018, lost the match with a scoreline of 13-21, 16-21. Saina Nehwal had won bronze medal in the event.

MoU Signed For Skill Development Of Arogyamitras Under PMJAY

An MoU was signed between the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and National Health  Agency (NHA), to provide capacity building for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) to ensure effective rollout and continued quality implementation.

The MoU was signed by Dr Indu Bhushan, CEO, NHA and Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC. As per the MoU, NSDC will ensure quality training of Arogyamitra through its network of Skill Development Centres functioning under PMKVY and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras(PMKK).

FDI In Country Rises 23% To About 13 billion dollars In 1st Quarter

According to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion data, Foreign Direct Investment, FDI in India rose 23% to 12.8 billion dollars during the April to June quarter of this fiscal. The foreign fund inflows in April-June 2017-18 stood at 10.4 billion dollars. 
Key sectors that received maximum foreign investment during the first quarter of the current fiscal include services 2.4 billion dollars, trading 1.62 billion dollars and telecommunications 1.59 billion dollars. Singapore was the largest source of FDI during April to June quarter with 6.52 billion dollars.

Asian Games 2018: Neeraj Chopra Wins India 1st Javelin Gold in Asiad History

Neeraj Chopra became the first-ever Indian javelin thrower to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. The 20-year-old junior world record holder hurled the javelin to a distance of 88.06m to bag the Asiad gold.
Notably, Neeraj had also become the first Indian to bag gold in javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

Sports Policy For Steel Ministry CPSEs Launched

Union Minister of Steel, Chaudhary Birender Singh, unveiled the corporate sports policy for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Steel. 
The policy will provide a framework for promotion of sports by Steel Ministry CPSEs. Steel CPSEs will allocate a specific budget for sports activities, as per their financial strength, and this budget will be separate from the company’s CSR funds.

India’s 1st Biofuel-Powered Flight Lands In Delhi

In a Historic day for the country’s aviation and energy sector, India’s first biofuel-powered flight landed in Delhi, covering the distance between Dehradun & Delhi. The biofuel is developed by Indian Institute of Petroleum. The flight test was successfully completed by SpiceJet. 
The flight was powered with a blend of 75% air turbine fuel (ATF) and 25% biojet fuel. The advantage of using biojet fuel as compared to ATF is that it reduces carbon emissions and enhances fuel efficiency. Made from Jatropha crop, the fuel has been developed by the CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun.
